Since hitachi excavator tracks are frequently used, the material from which one of these chains is made must be able to handle the numerous tasks required by the machines it drives. Such chains typically must also be rust resistant, as many of them are used in outdoor elements and exposed to moisture, air, heat and cold. As a result, most hitachi excavator tracks are forged from a different type of treated steel or alloy, which while making them expensive, also makes them extremely durable.
Hitachi excavator tracks have many heavy use requirements, and in addition to being made of durable materials, the chain itself must be manufactured in such a way that it can meet or, in most cases, exceed specified working loads. As a result, most track drive chains are manufactured in a way that precludes the use of rivets, which wear out over time and cause inconsistent timing of the tooth-to-delivery ratio. Instead, track drive chains typically use different styles of bushings that are held in place by high-strength shot-peened steel pins, preventing any unnecessary adjustment of link spacing.
